The Australian Dictionary of Invisible Culture for Teachers
had
verb: someone does something (see more)
Someone (e.g. Phoebe) wanted something to happen. Because of this, Phoebe wanted someone else (e.g. Oscar) to do something (e.g. organise a meeting).
Because of this, Phoebe said something to someone (maybe Oscar, maybe someone else). Because of this, Oscar did it (organised the meeting).
Phoebe could think about it like this: When I say something like this, Oscar can’t say ‘I don’t want to do it’.
Note
In this entry, whether 'Oscar' wants to do the task or nor is not relevant until the end, where it is revealed that (it is likely that) he can't refuse a request like this."Sarah had her sister work in the same office so she would always know what was happening when she wasn't there."
"While my parents were away, they had my brother look after the dogs for them."
"Until they signed the papers, the couple had everyone else take photos on the stairs of the church."
