Many people in Australia think like this:

When I want to say something to you now, I say it with your name.

When I say it, I think about you like I can think about someone if I know this person well

At the same time, when I say it I feel something good towards you.

"Excuse me, Jane, can I ask you a question?"

"Hi Julian, just letting you know that the meeting starts at 3."
