The Australian Dictionary of Invisible Culture for Teachers

boss/manager

noun: a person of one kind (see more)

In Australia it is like this:

There are many kinds of people in a place where people work.

Some of these people are above other people.

These people can say to the people below them “You have to do this.” “You can’t do this.” “I want you to do this now.” “This is how you do this.” “You did something good.” “You did something bad.”

Often there is another someone above this person.

It is good if a person can think: This person is someone like me.

It is bad if a person thinks: Because of this person, I feel something very bad.

"My boss is nice and always provides enough food for staff meetings."

"The best and the worst thing about working from home is that you become your own boss."

"Hayden is the manager here. If you have a problem, speak to them."
