making an offer

norm: when it is like this, it is good to do some things (see more)

Many people in Australia think like this:

It is good for someone (e.g. Sophia) to think like this: I want to do something good for a person. I don’t know if they want me to do it. I want them to say if they want me to do it.

Because of this, Sophie says something like “Do you want me to do X for you?”

Note

Common things to make an offer for when visiting someone's house are helping to prepare dinner and washing the dishes.

"Can I help you with anything, Mary? Would you like me to cut some vegetables for the salad?"

"Would you like me to wash the dishes Harry?"
