norm: when it is like this, it is good to do some things (see more)

When someone I know very well says “How are you?” I don’t have to say “I’m well”. I can say many things.

If I don’t know this person very well, it can be bad if I say “I feel very bad”.

If I don’t know this person very well, it can be bad if I say “I feel very good”

"When Craig's mother asks Craig 'how are you?' Craig can say 'I feel very bad. Many bad things are happening to me.'"
