The Australian Dictionary of Invisible Culture for Teachers

not forcing someone to do something

value: many people in Australia think it is good if people can think like this (see more)

When I want someone (e.g. Beth) to do something [for me], I don’t want Beth to think like this: This person wants me to do it, I can’t not do it because of this.

It is bad if people think about me like this.

Because of this, I say some things, I don’t say some other things.

Note

This value is the reciprocal value of 'not being forced to do something'. In many ways it is reflective of 'treat someone as you would want to be treated'.
