Many people in Australia think like this:

If someone (e.g. Dave) does something good for someone else (e.g. Frank), it is good if a very short time after this, Frank says these words to Dave “Thank you.”

It can be bad if Frank doesn't say these words to Dave.

"Taylor gave Alex a cake. It is good if Alex says 'thank you' to Taylor a very short time after this."

"Bobby let Jordan stay at their house for a month for free. It is good if Jordan says 'thank you'. It is bad if Jordan doesn't say these words."
